EXPERIENCE

Refué’s family works the land in Mokhotlong Province in the mountainous country of Lesotho.

Until recently, families grew only one crop—corn—which limited their ability to weather disaster and made for a monotonous and limited diet.

Basing our response on our long experience in agricultural development, as well as on agricultural techniques developed by a Basotho researcher, NEF helped form a local NGO named GROW. This organization advises farmers on adding crops suitable to the local environment. Refué’s family plot now rotates corn with beans, greens, sorghum, pumpkin and sunflowers.
